An argument between a chef and a Myanmar waiter ended with the former being stabbed to death at a bakery outlet in Jalan Datuk Abdullah TahirĀ on Saturday.
Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Sulaiman Salleh identified the victim as a 32-year-old local man.
ACP Sulaiman said the argument was believed to have started when the victim chided the 26-year-old suspect for chatting too long with his girlfriend.
It is learnt that the suspect had allegedly stabbed the victim with a knife in the 11.50am incident.
"Initial investigation showed the murder took place in the kitchen of the bakery where the victim was stabbed in the stomach with a 14-inch knife,'' he said in a statement here.
ACP Sulaiman said the suspect fled the crime scene immediately after stabbing the victim and threw the knife into a pond near the area.
Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder which carries a mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
