A quick-thinking SMRT bus captain has been lauded for helping a fellow motorist extinguish a fire along the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE) on Aug 25.

Stomper Teck How was onboard bus service 960E at around 6.05pm when he saw a van with bags of incense paper on fire.

He recounted: "The driver of my bus (SMB1550H) promptly stopped the vehicle along the road shoulder to help the van driver. I would like to praise the bus driver for his quick thinking and actions.

"It was during rush hour but nobody stopped to help. If not for the bus driver, the van would have caught fire and the damage would have been unimaginable."

Teck How said he was glad to be on the bus and to have witnessed the incident.

He added: "It restored my faith in humanity. I hope SMRT will recognise the driver and do something about it. Such drivers need to be recognised and commended."
